“It was regrettable. It was essentially an interaction with our fans out in front of us,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “Present was a large group of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was filled with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
Jones additionally emphasized that the gesture was entirely accidental, happening amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I just showed the incorrect finger,” he noted. “It was inadvertently done. This is sincere. Should you call it unplanned, you can. But it got resolved rapidly.”

This is not the initial instance an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Recent cases involve:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at fans in early 2024.
