Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, if briefly, when he spun at corner four during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
