It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to another six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are the only things left for a side that has won it all.

It needed up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batsmen to hold a record if not afforded the opportunity.

In the end, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to produce her most recent brilliance.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort remains open for discussion.

Certain people claim the case for the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this knock came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in the nets, it's been a frustrating experience because it seemed my form was missing completely," commented Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your fighting spirit activate and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitiveness has consistently been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and from there the right-hander was in motion.

"A chance to go out there and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was dismissed Australia required another 66 at one run per ball - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the confidence to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, if necessary, we are confident we can succeed."

These statements will be the last rival teams at this championship want to hear.

In recent days a belief they will win from any position has only strengthened - this triumph coming after success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

During that phase they exited the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she later said she regretted not playing despite the injury.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those injuries have postponed plans to retire, this tournament is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a global event as captain.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her final mountain.
