From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners groups.
Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
